AJP Takes in PRI Through a Fish-Eye Lens
The PRI 2008 3-day show was big. Huge. It had over 4,200 booths. That’s 1,400 booths per day. 2.5 booths per minute.
This was my first PRI show. Veterans advised me to walk up and down the aisles.
I employed two strategies. The first strategy was connecting with the companies I do business with: Precision Turbo, TiAL, Dynocom, AEM Power and others. Then there was Autotech, maker of the Wavetrac differential.
There were companies I wanted to do business with, such as the video companies. Of course, there were the companies with big names, such as Eagle Specialty Products, Wiseco, Lincoln Electric, Miller, Brembo, Tein, Garrett and more.
There was the weird, such as the wood car, the monster trailers, a booth that analyzed your golf swing and more.
The second strategy is walking up and down the aisles, seeing what caught my interest. It was hard to stay disciplined. There was always an interesting booth “over there” that interrupted my straight-line path. It was great to see all kinds of innovation.
PRI is great to connect with people that you knew only through the phone and e-mail. Plus all kinds of partnerships can be found. Companies are selling stuff at special show prices.
There was a lot of walking and talking. I look forward to next year’s show.
