On a roll with the dyno

First AJ Performance customer dyno session video

Dyno fisheye right frontIt’s hard to believe that the dyno arrived two weeks ago. It already seems like forever. I’ve been through many dyno sessions with camcorder in hand, videorecording one tuning session after another. We would like to feature as many tuning sessions as possible on our blog.

I’ve watched numerous videos on YouTube and other sites with lousy video and lousier sound. Not here. Watch this video from our July 4 dyno session with John from West Palm Beach, our first dyno customer, and you’ll see that the video quality matches the car quality.

As the dyno rolls to a stop, you’ll hear the brakes kick in with a horrifying moan. Gradually, the shoes wore in and the sound went away. Until we change the shoes, you won’t hear that sound.

What you don’t see is the typical brightening and darkening of the autoexposure as the camcorder moves around, the dim foreground and bright background, typical of many daytime dyno videos and the shaky handheld look.

And the sound? A quality shotgun microphone records that motor across the audible spectrum. You can turn the speakers up and enjoy the VTEC sound.

Im lovin that clean vid david…goodjob…when are you guys going to dyno felitos car?!?

DavidY July 15, 2007 at 14:07

Thanks man. Clean vids for clean cars.

Felito’s car is a work-in-progress. I don’t know when it’s going to run, but I’ll ask. I see Felito working on the car from time to time, and I am always asking Ron what dyno cars are coming up. However, as Slow K will tell you, it can be one thing after another.

I just shot video of a car that Toni pushed to 400 whp, and will post that soon, complete with shots of the dyno output.

sweet,400hp? cant wait to see it!

DavidY July 15, 2007 at 15:51

Yes, Ron called me in to videorecord it specifically because it’s the highest hp car we’ve put on our dyno so far. And just to add to the excitement, it was pump gas and no VTEC.

so tru so tru david. when getting yourself into a project like this, theres always gunna be come complications in the end. which car is felitio’s btw?

DavidY July 17, 2007 at 11:13

Felito’s car is a black Acura Integra with a Honda Prelude H22 motor. Ron estimates that it’s capable of somewhere between 700-800 hp, but that its upcoming dyno session will tell us for sure.

must make a vid of that one for sure!!

Ill be heading back here in a few weeks for another session. Great video David. Thanks alot.

DavidY July 22, 2007 at 18:59

Yes, Felito’s car is a shop car, so it definitely has to get videorecorded.

I hope to get Vtec99EJ8′s car as well with some dyno numbers. I saw folks asking for them, but we had some problems with getting the correct numbers, so I had none to show.

The numbers are correct now, so we should be able to get you a good video with numbers to show for it.

Just let me know when you’re coming down so that I can plan for it. I’m generally available, but would like to make sure I can be there if I can help it.
