Mitsubishi Evo VIII thunders to life
Big horsepower came to the AJ Performance dyno late Thursday night, July 26. Mike had towed his car
down from West Palm Beach, looking for some credible numbers from his race car. It had reached 700hp before and had a 9.8 quarter-mile under its belt, but was “detuned”, so he guessed he would get 650hp that night.

Tuner gets over twice the expected whp
One of AJ Performance’s dyno customers got a nice surprise in the form of more horsepower than he expected. How about 65 more whp? He brought in his Honda Civic hatchback with a custom 1.6-liter B-16 motor. He never got more than 190 whp and said he would be happy if our tuner could get him to 250 whp. Well, Toni got it to 315 whp, making for a very happy customer. In this photo, we see a typical tuning session with the ever-present laptop and dyno software.
Motors and welding and dyno, oh my!
Saturday is normally a shorter work day for AJ Performance but not with a dyno. Several cars came through the garage, with varying amounts of work. Here is a picture of three different cars getting worked on. The Civic on the dyno belongs to blog member and the Accord on the lift belongs to blog member SlowK.

Someone’s in the garage with dyno
In my last post, I gave an overview of our first customer dyno session. John McBride, of West Palm Beach, wanted to see how well his brand new Skunk2 cams would improve his 1999 Honda Civic. So it was with much excitement on both his part to see his car run, and we at AJP to see our dyno perform, that we spent the better part of our Fourth of July watching the car-dyno pair work together, not unlike watching Olympic ice-skating couples.
We learned early on that everything had to be strapped or tightened down. The big orange floor fan met an early demise after the first run rattled it off the dyno onto the floor. On the other hand, the car was well anchored to the dyno. Big, strong straps with robust connectors on both the front and back of the vehicle connected to clips bolted into the floor. We were slightly humored by a colleague who came in and said, “I parked my van right in front so when the car flies off, it will run straight into the van.” He should leave the jokes to the comedians.

The garage is alive with the sound of dyno

What better way to spend a hot, muggy 4th of July than on the dyno? That was what John McBride from West Palm Beach decided, so he, his dad and friend drove an hour down to the shop and broke our dyno in, giving him the honor of being our first customer dyno session. More dyno installation at AJ Performance

Here are more pictures taken on Saturday, June 30, 2007. This is the front of the dyno. The wall-mounted monitor on the left-hand side is where the readout will display. The little silver rails on the floor is for the dyno to move according to the length of the car. The adjustment is automatic - just punch in the length and the dyno moves accordingly. How cool is that?
Check out this Dynocom demo video (click here) of a 2006 Corvette Z06 spinning its wheels. Those sounds will soon reverberate quite loudly here at AJP. The dyno installation is almost complete. They’ll be working on it some more tonight.

AJ Performance buys a Dynacom dynamometer
The average sustained noise level at AJ Performance will jump by many decibels and I intend to bring my hearing protection. As a videographer, I need to keep my hearing intact.
This beast of a machine, a Dynocom DC-Tuner, should arrive Friday, and Ron tells me that he has been booking appointments like crazy. It’s an all-wheel-drive unit, which means that it can handle a wider variety of vehicles than the two-wheel-drive units. This unit has a bigger brother, but AJP decided to handle cars only - no trucks!
