AJP Rebuilds Oscar’s Motor

Oscar's new built motor with AJP exhaust turbo manifoldOscar was addicted to the bottle - the nitrous bottle, that is. But what to do with his dead stock motor, which was destroyed by numerous 100-shot nitrous? He decided to build the motor and install an AJP turbo kit with an AJP ported and polished intake manifold. Plus an AEM Fuel/Ignition Controller on top of the standard Hondata reflash that will give him more than the normal 8.5 psi.

Oscar’s motor went from dead to solid muscle. Check out the pictures of the motor, turbo exhaust manifold, pistons, wastegate, head, downpipe and injector wiring.

Nitrous Gone Wild, Part 2

oscar_miami_blown_motor04It was a happy day for Oscar from Miami when he bought a brand new Honda Civic SI, all gleaming red. However, Oscar had some big intentions. He raced anyone and anywhere. He was a nitrous junkie, installing a system in his car at only 1,000 miles. In a 2-week period, he went through 6 bottles. At one point, he averaged a bottle per day.

The only problem was that the Miami-based shop was not competent and the installation was not correct. After repeated 100-shots, he blew his motor.

Jorge and his Honda Civic SI from Port St. Lucie, FLOur friend Jorge, winner of the AJP 2007 Dyno Day Forced Induction category (click here), came by the shop yesterday. He wanted his car, powered by our AJP turbo kit, checked out and tuned up to make sure it was running in top condition.

All it took was a set of new spark plugs and an adjustment of the fuel and everything was set. On a hot South Florida afternoon with temperatures hovering in the low 90s, he was happily surprised to get 384 whp.

Nitrous Gone Wild

Extreme Nitrous Damage

Chevy big block motor damaged by 500-shotI stopped by a shop that specializes in building and rebuilding motors - Russ Racing. They’ve been around South Florida since 1958. That’s five decades of experience. I got a tour of the place and took some pictures of motors they were repairing. They’ve seen it all.

News Flash - AJP Calls the Cops

AJP Calls Police After Seeing TV News Coverage of Hit-and-Run Car

Ron interviewed by local Fox NewsIt wasn’t the usual way to get new customers, but then again, it wasn’t business as usual. When Ron opened the shop yesterday, he happened to catch the 8:00am news story about a hit-and-run only 4 days before. Surveillance video caught a fuzzy outline of a silver or gray car hitting a pedestrian at night.

Ron had just taken a car on Saturday, a silver Mercedes-Benz, with damage that resembled that of the car he saw in the video. He called police and soon the place was filled with not only cops but reporters and cameramen. Helicopters buzzed overhead.

Silver Mercedes-Benz, suspected in hit-and-run accidentThe car was towed away by the police and Ron was left to wonder about the owner of the car, whom he had just seen on Saturday. The customer had been coming to the shop since 1999 and never came across as one who would hit a pedestrian at non-trivial speed and then take off.

Ron gave interviews both to the police and the media. See local Fox News coverage (click here) and local CBS News coverage (click here).

Then things got interesting. The policemen took a liking to the shop car and the dyno. They were interested in bringing their cars in. A few wanted him to rev the shop car - they couldn’t believe it had over 700 whp. What a way to pick up a few more customers!
