Bigger Intercooler Adds More Horsepower
The AJP Shop car just added a hefty amount of horsepower without a single tune. A dyno run last year showed that the limiting factor was the intercooler, so we replaced it with a much larger one.
The car will run in the Import Face-Off event at the Palm Beach International Raceway on Sunday, February 22, 2009. It’s been too long since its last run when it broke 12 seconds. With a fully-built motor and a host of other modifications, we hope to shave off a full second from its 11.966 quarter-mile.
To accommodate the bigger intercooler, we welded it to the bumper support and then redid two of the piping. It was a long and difficult procedure but our welder James did an outstanding job.
