AJP Rescues Si from Botched Turbo Installation

Henry’s Long, Expensive Road to Turbo Ends at AJP

Henry Dominican RepublicHenry was a certifiable boost junkie. He drove a Neon SRT-4 and a 2004 Civic before getting a 2007 Honda Civic Si sedan. A year into his ownership, he installed nitrous, after getting a ride in someone’s nitrous-boosted car. That someone turned out to be Oscar, who eventually became an AJP turbo customer.

Unfortunately, he was fated to follow in the same path as Oscar, first going to the same shop as Oscar did for his nitrous, then ruining his motor while racing, like Oscar did. After repeated 100-shots, he melted the piston and broke a valve.

Much to his regret, he did not follow Oscar to AJP, but went back to the same shop to build the motor and install a turbo kit.

It took two installation attempts over the course of 6 months to finish the job. Cheap parts, leaks and smoke. And more money.

When he picked up the car on a Saturday afternoon, it only made 405 whp and did not drive well. The exhaust was so badly installed, it melted the back bumper and a plastic piece underneath. One intercooler pipe was hanging a few inches off the ground, making it susceptible to potholes and speed bumps. Henry’s car was a mess.

Henry took the car to us on Monday.

Henry from Dominican RepublicAfter recovering from our shock at seeing such an expensive and low-quality job, we fixed it up as best we could. We replaced a few parts and then reassessed the car’s condition. Replace a few more parts. After several days of that, plus a few days of tuning, we transformed the car from a barely-drivable wreck to a dragstrip-worthy car.

Henry has relocated back to his native Dominican Republic, taking his car with him. We hope to see his car in action, turning heads at the race track, and blowing away cars who are used to seeing a Honda Civic Si in their rear-view mirror.
